I grew up in
Olso, Norway. My interest for dogs started when I was still a young girl.
All my friends where baby sitting, but I took care of dogs of all
different breeds instead. My family lived in an apartment where it
wasn't allowed to keep animals so my longing for a dog of my own only
grew instead.
1967 I got a
big pictorial dog book and this was my first contact with the Basenji
breed and I fell madly in love with this beautiful creation. I contacted
the Norwegian Kennel Club, but they only gave me negative information
about the breed. At this time there was only one active breeder in
Norway and she didin't have any puppies for sale as it was in the Summer
time.
After having
owned three generations of German Shepherds (they lived to be 8, 11 and
13) I once again got curious about the Basenji. This time I recieved
more information about the beautiful breed that I had never forgotten
about.
1995 I
contacted kennel Faraoland in Sweden. One of their bitches, Mingeli, was
being bred that following Spring and the pups where supposed to be born
in the Summer. But, turns out that Mingeli never came in season untill
that following Fall so the waiting got extra long! Little Faraoland Nile
Wild Farah Diba was born December 2'nd 1995.
Time flies
and Farah turns 10 years old this coming December. Today she has a
couple more "siblings" - Primetime Out Of Africa (Kirah), Strawberry
Fields Out Of Africa (Miah) and Kirah's son Matabichi Alasan Adem (Alasan).
Now our house is filled with these little "clowns". They all have
different characters, beautiful, wise and stubborn!
My kennelname,
Matabichi, means "Gift" in Swahili and a Basenji is to me the biggest
gift!
All our puppies have names in Swahili, carefully picked to fit their
characters.
Matabichi's
first litter was born December 29'th 2003 and we keep in touch with all
our puppy buyers. Our puppies have done great in the showrings and they
are all loved by us and their new families.
I live under
the device, ONCE A BASENJI - ALWAYS A BASENJI!!!!!
